About the MCCA
The MCCA is a private, nonprofit association which, through the collection of an annual per-vehicle assessment fee, reimburses property and casualty insurance companies for unlimited Personal Injury Protection claims paid over an amount set by statute.
Our funding comes from fees paid by auto insurers in Michigan. This system spreads the cost and ensures that no single insurer takes on the entire financial burden of a catastrophic claim.
Governance & Oversight
The MCCA has robust transparency and strong governance measures in place. The MCCA is managed by a board of directors from Michigan's auto insurance industry. The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) closely oversees our operations.
DIFS regularly examines our financial health, business practices and compliance with state law. Each year, independent actuaries assess our reserves and funding. We also have external audits to promote transparency and accountability.
Our Commitment to Michigan
For more than four decades, the MCCA has supported the State of Michigan. From the Upper Peninsula to Metro Detroit, we fund care for people who have been catastrophically injured in auto accidents.
Our commitment is unwavering. Once someone qualifies for catastrophic coverage, the MCCA provides funding for allowable benefits for their entire lifetime. This allows families to focus on recovery and quality of life instead of financial worries.
