About Assessment Information & Notices

The MCCA is funded by per-vehicle fees paid by all auto insurance companies operating in Michigan. These fees are passed on to policyholders as part of their auto insurance premiums.

The assessment amount is calculated each year based on recommendations from independent actuaries who analyze expected claims costs and anticipated medical inflation. The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) reviews all changes to assessment rates.

Current assessment rates and rate information for the past two years are listed below. If you have questions about how the MCCA assessment shows up on your auto insurance bill, please reach out to your insurance company directly.

Common Questions

  • Michigan law requires all auto insurers to participate in the MCCA as members and allows insurers to pass the per-vehicle assessment through to policyholders, which appears as a separate line item on your bill.

  • Independent actuaries calculate the assessment based on projected claims costs, medical inflation and the funding needed to maintain adequate reserves. DIFS reviews the assessment rate.
