How the MCCA Helps Families & Individuals

If you or a loved one has experienced a catastrophic injury from an auto accident, understanding how care is funded and what resources are available can help you plan for the future.

While the MCCA doesn’t manage individual claims or provide direct payments, we do ensure the financial resources are there to support ongoing care paid for by your insurance company. The MCCA reimburses your auto insurance company for payments made when costs for care exceed the statutory retention amount.

The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) is a model of financial stability and success that has effectively served the state as a nonprofit re-insurer, enabling insurance companies to provide no-fault coverage that supports the medical care of those who have been catastrophically injured in auto crashes, without which Michigan’s unique option of unlimited Personal Injury Protection would not be possible.

Common Questions

  • No. The MCCA provides reimbursement to auto insurance companies, who manage the actual claims and pay for care. If you have questions about your claim, contact your insurance company directly.

  • Your insurance company determines what benefits are available based on your injury and needs. MCCA reimbursement to your insurance company happens automatically when your costs exceed the statutory limit.
