about mccaThe MCCA Story
How We Began
The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) was established in 1978, following Michigan's passage of its no-fault auto insurance law. The law introduced a unique system that provided unlimited lifetime medical benefits for accident victims who are catastrophically injured.
To keep this system in place, the Michigan legislature set up the MCCA as a shared re-insurance pool. This new approach protected individual insurance companies from the financial burden of a single catastrophic claim while ensuring injured people would receive care.

Our Mission Today
Today, the MCCA continues the mission established in 1978: ensuring every catastrophically injured person in Michigan receives the medical care and support they need throughout their life.
We remain committed to financial stability, transparent operations and effective stewardship of the resources entrusted to us. As medical treatments and costs evolve and the needs of injured individuals change, we adapt while maintaining our core promise of lifetime care to those who need it most.
